Cockroach milk research earns 2026 Ig Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Sometimes the most unexpected scientific discoveries can lead to the most memorable stories. Ramaswamy Subramanian, a professor in Purdue University’s Department of Biological Sciences; Leonard “Leo” Chavas, structural biologist and general manager and representative director of DECTRIS Japan; and Nathan Coussens, director of the In Vitro Evaluation and Molecular Pharmacology Laboratories at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, received the 2026 Ig Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their research into how a species of cockroach nourishes its developing embryos.

DECTRIS Assumes Stewardship of XDS to Ensure Long-Term Reproducibility in Macromolecular Crystallography

Modern Macromolecular crystallography (MX) relies on a foundation of trusted, highly optimized software to translate raw diffraction images into meaningful structural biology insights. For decades, XDS - the software program developed by Wolfgang Kabsch - has served as a critical component in this workflow. Max Planck Innovation and Wolfgang Kabsch have chosen to entrust DECTRIS with the long-term stewardship, distribution, and support of XDS through an exclusive licensing agreement. Through this transition, DECTRIS ensures that (a) XDS remains freely available to academic researchers without

From User to Application Scientist: Meet Hans Gildenast

Meet our new Application Scientist Hans Gildenast! Hans is an experienced DECTRIS detector user and passionate crystallographer who will be working with researchers, understanding their projects, and helping them achieve their scientific goals with DECTRIS detectors.

Interview with Leonard Chavas: Empowering Science Through Cutting Edge Technology

Structural biology is a field where precision meets discovery, and few understand this better than Leonard Chavas. He has been at the forefront of structural biology at synchrotrons for 25 years. As of April 1, 2025, he joins DECTRIS Japan as a sales manager. We sat down with him to discuss his journey, motivations, and vision for the future.

Celebrating Our Global Impact In Life Sciences and Drug Development On World’s Health Day

April 7, 2024 BADEN, April 7, 2024 - On the World Health Day, we commemorate the global impact of our technology, enabling structural biologists worldwide to make important breakthroughs in public health. Since the first PILATUS X-ray detector revolutionized biological research at synchrotron light sources over fifteen years ago, progress in life sciences, drug discovery and drug development accelerated, including the development of vaccines. This faster, more structure-based approach to do biological research led to many important discoveries. As a pioneering technique in Structural Biology,
